My name is Noah Goudie and I am a multimedia journalist. When I am not in class you can find me in the TV studio or out around Iowa City shooting, editing, and creating content for Daily Iowan TV as a news reporter. Telling compelling stories is my passion along with getting the facts and story correct. I also anchor a live newscast every Thursday morning. My skills have developed behind the camera as well where I have produced newscasts and tech directed. Here are just some of the stories that I have covered so far in my career.

Dumpling Darling has opened up in Downtown Iowa City and the story behind the restaurant is one that the owners never saw happening. Daily Iowan TV Reporter Noah Goudie spoke with the owners to find out more.

Dumpling Darling Owners Lesley and Brian Triplett met at the University of Iowa while working at Atlas Restaurant and Bar where they hit it off just a few weeks before Lesley was set to leave to travel the world.

“She told me she was leaving for South Korea in a few weeks and I thought that’s to bad she is really pretty and nice. We went and talked about travel as our first date and then I think our third date was moving into a 200 square foot apartment with no windows in Seoul.”
That move together to Seoul, South Korea introduced them to the world of Dumplings.

“It was there that I fell in love with dumplings. They would have a neighborhood mondue stand, that’s what dumplings are called in Korea and we would eat it all the time and when we came back here I started a farmers market stand to recreate the dumplings just as a hobby.”
That hobby grew from just the one farmers market stand to catering large orders and then eventually their new stores home on Iowa Avenue.

“Lesley and Brian have actually told me about how they have traveled to nearly 50 countries around the world and those experiences have actually inspired their menu here at their new restaurant in Downtown Iowa City.”

“The Kimchi Mondo that was a Korean Dumpling that we were used to eating all the time and then we also travelled all around Asia. We recently in China learned how to make soup dumplings, Shanghai Soup Dumplings.”
Those different foods that they have decided to bring back from their travels have seemed to have hit it off well with the residents of Iowa City who can’t get enough of the Dumpling Darling.

“We have had an incredible response these first couple of weeks and if you look at our menu boards we are running out of a few things, so right now we are just going to focus on making the shop the best it can be.”

It is sexual assault awareness month and organizations from around the Iowa City community came together to show their support. Daily Iowan TV Reporter Noah Goudie was there to bring us the story.

That’s the sounds you could hear Tuesday evening as students, community members, and therapy dogs all came out to show support at the annual Take Back The Night rally in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

“Take Back The Night marches originated in the 1970s originally in our country and they were apart of the battered womens movement. It was sort of the beginning of activism around domestic violence and sexual assault.”
This event has since continued at the University of Iowa being held every year in the spring to bring awareness to the campus.

“It’s a problem on our campus and also in our communities so I think that its really important especially as we are coming to the end of sexual assault activism month to really sort of remember that.”

“The Take Back The Night event gave University of Iowa students and the community a chance to voice their opinion on sexual assault.”
This event began with a march around the Downtown Iowa City area and then led into people taking their turns standing up to the microphone to tell their stories or someone elses story that has been affected by Sexual Assault.

“If a survivor wants to get up and talk or if someone wants to get up and talk about an experience that they have had with sexual violence its an open venue to do so.”
Everyone in attendance kept saying that the fight against sexual assault is a group effort and that those victims are not alone in their time of need.

“Ultimately the solution to the problem is that it is going to need all of us. I think that it is just one of those things that is compelling. There is no need for this violence to be happening and we can stop it.”

Student Immunity Bill TRT: 1:35

One idea sparked on the University of Iowa campus is now turning heads at the Iowa Legislator. Daily Iowan TV Reporter Noah Goudie has more on the story.

Underage drinking on college campuses has seen an increase in recent years and has people worried for the safety of those consuming alcohol. With current laws against underage drinking, it can make it difficult for the individual to ask for medical help if they are worried about the reprocutions that could be held against them.

“With these concerns the University of Iowa Student Government proposed a bill to the Iowa Legislator that would protect the underage individual if they seeked medical attention due to alcohol consumption and now the state legislators have revised the bill and it has already passed the senate and moved on to the house for further review here at the State Capital.”
The proposed bill would prohibit state universities from imposing certain disciplinary sanctions against students who need medical help due to alcohol consumption. Senator Brad Zaun, who sponsored the UISG bill spoke on legislations hopes for the proposal.

“The intent of this is not to promote drinking but rather potentially save someone who needs emergency services that made a poor decision by drinking under the age.”
The bill even included protection for a person who reports that another individual is in need of medical attention as long as the person that reported the incident cooperates fully with medical and law enforcement.

“I want to show up on a scene and I want you to be able to stay there and protect and make sure your friend is safe. All the way to the end of that event.”
With the senate approving this bill, the piece of legislation has to make it through both the House of Representatives and then the Governor before it could be considered an actual law. Reporting from the Des Moines, Iowa, Noah Goudie, Daily Iowan TV.
